Current Position: Senior Researcher of the National Health System, Hospital General Universitario de Alicante
Assistant Professor of Immunology, School of Medicine, Universidad Miguel Hernandez.

Research Fields:

  1. Immunobiology of recurrent bacterial translocation episodes and low-level inflammation in digestive and metabolic diseases. We follow molecular, microbiological and genetic approaches to study the main pathogenic mechanisms of bacterial translocation, from intestinal permeability to bacterial overgrowth and immunological derangements, to identify potential targets to prevent these events and restore intestinal homeostasis both in patients and experimental models.
  2. Gut microbiome composition and development of alternative therapeutic strategies aimed at its modification while preserving the beneficial effects of comensal flora. Biological therapies and their genetically-conditioned interaction with the local and systemic immune responses are also topics of interest for us.
